A Victorian medium sized sterling silver travel drinking flask with removable drinking cup. This is a stunning piece, very simple in design, and top quality. The body is a little more bulbous than some others of this length, allowing for a little more of your favourite tipple to be added. The removable cup, with gilt washed interior, also doubles as an added layer of protection to the flask, to prevent any damage to the precious cargo. The metal gauge is very thick making it a durable companion for outdoor, more rigorous trips or activities. Measuring over five and a half inches long, it carries a good amount of liquid, around half a pint.
The flask has full makers marks on the side of the body, and the removable drinking cup for the prolific and highly regarded silversmiths Colen Hewer Cheshire. These silversmiths were one of the many talented workshops operating in Birmingham during the Victorian period. They ran the workshop from 1867 to 1910 making a host of pieces ranging from card case, purses and flasks such as this stunning exmaple.
The lid is a classic bayonet style fitting, secure, and with a cork liner to prevent any leakage. The piece is in excellent condition throughout. Made in Birmingham, England in 1891.
